Van Nistelrooy eyes ‘freakish’ Man Utd talent as pivotal addition for Leicester’s relegation battle

Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly looking to sign a “freakish” talent from his former club, Manchester United, who he believes could be pivotal in helping Leicester City avoid relegation.

Van Nistelrooy, who joined Manchester United as an assistant manager last summer, was dismissed after a brief interim role with the arrival of Rúben Amorim.

Now managing Leicester, Van Nistelrooy has already made an impact, securing a 3-1 victory against West Ham in his first game in charge, despite his team facing significant pressure throughout the match.

Speaking this week, Van Nistelrooy confirmed that Leicester’s board has provided funds for January transfers.

He explained, “We had a conversation about transfers before I signed. We discussed the winter window and plans for the summer.

At the same time, there’s no rush to act immediately.

The current squad will have the opportunity to prove themselves over this month, which is a valuable time to work together and evaluate.

After that, we can make informed decisions in January.”

Reports suggest Van Nistelrooy is particularly interested in United’s academy graduate Toby Collyer.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who joined United from Brighton two years ago, has impressed with his exceptional physical stats, earning praise from manager Erik ten Hag.

Collyer made his senior debut in the Community Shield against Manchester City in August and replaced Casemiro during United’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool in September.

The Sun claims Van Nistelrooy plans to leverage his connections at Old Trafford to secure Collyer, potentially on a loan deal.

While Manchester United is reluctant to sell the young talent, they are reportedly open to a loan arrangement, especially with a manager they trust to provide first-team opportunities.

Collyer’s performances have also caught the attention of former United players, with David May commenting on his MUTV appearance: “There was a lot of pressure for the young kid, but after five minutes, he settled and handled himself brilliantly.”

As Van Nistelrooy aims to strengthen Leicester’s squad in their fight against relegation, Collyer could emerge as a vital addition if a deal materialize in January.
