“INSANE STEAL: Newcastle Set to Snag ‘PHENOMENAL’ Premier League Star for a MIND-BLOWING £20M Bargain!”

Newcastle United Plan Goalkeeper Signing as Howe Seeks Added Competition for Nick Pope

Howe Targets Four New Signings as Newcastle Eye Goalkeeper Reinforcement

Eddie Howe is aiming to bring in four new players at Newcastle United this summer, with a goalkeeper high on his wishlist after missing out on his preferred choice a year ago.

Last summer, despite being linked with promising stoppers like James Trafford and Giorgi Mamardashvili, Newcastle instead signed Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest in a £20 million deal.

The move was largely driven by financial fair play considerations, allowing Elliot Anderson to head the other way to help satisfy Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

However, the financial situation at the club has improved significantly in 2025, giving Newcastle the flexibility to be more aggressive in the market.

Sporting director Paul Mitchell reportedly wants to secure a high-profile signing before his departure, while Howe is pushing for swift action.

Whether that leads to a goalkeeper arriving imminently remains uncertain, but interest in James Trafford persists.

Caoimhin Kelleher Now on Newcastle’s Radar

While Trafford continues to be Newcastle’s primary target, he’s not the only option under consideration.

The club are also keeping tabs on Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher, who is expected to leave Anfield in search of a regular starting role.

Kelleher, 26, is attracting strong Premier League interest, and his asking price has now been revealed.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are seeking a fee in excess of £20 million for the Republic of Ireland international.

Brentford have emerged as a serious contender, particularly with current goalkeeper Mark Flekken potentially departing.

Should Newcastle choose to step up their pursuit of Kelleher, they may need to act quickly to avoid missing out.

Kelleher vs Newcastle’s Record Goalkeeper Signing

In 2024, Newcastle set a club record by spending £20 million on a goalkeeper—Odysseas Vlachodimos.

However, the Greece international has only featured once, making a second-half appearance in a Carabao Cup third-round match against AFC Wimbledon.

That campaign ended with Newcastle lifting the Carabao Cup, ending their long wait for silverware, so the investment had some indirect payoff.

Still, should Newcastle invest a similar fee in Kelleher, expectations would be significantly higher. The Irishman is highly regarded, with Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk previously calling him “outstanding.”

Kelleher played a key part in Liverpool’s title-winning season and could serve as a long-term replacement for Nick Pope at St James’ Park.

That said, Brentford currently appear to be leading the race for his signature.
