Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to bolster Thomas Frank’s squad with more experienced players ahead of their return to the Champions League, and chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly eyeing a surprising bargain in the transfer market.

One of Spurs’ main challenges last season was the imbalance in squad age and the lack of depth across key positions.

Former boss Ange Postecoglou was frequently forced to rely on youthful options far more than anticipated.

Teenage talent Archie Gray, for example, was thrust into the spotlight, regularly featuring as a central defender in the absence of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero—at least until Kevin Danso was brought in during the January window.

Despite the pressure, the 19-year-old impressed with his composure and performances during that injury crisis.

Still, new head coach Thomas Frank will be determined to avoid a repeat scenario, instead building a more balanced squad that includes reliable and seasoned back-ups.

According to a recent report by the BBC, Tottenham view adding experience as a key objective in the current summer transfer window.

Their qualification for the Champions League should provide additional financial flexibility to strengthen the team accordingly.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean Levy will pursue older players—experience, in this context, refers more to match maturity and exposure to high-level football, rather than age alone.

“Bringing some experience in—I’m not talking about age, I’m talking about players who have played at this level and can help the team—then I’ve got no doubt we can make the impact we want,” said Postecoglou before his departure.

“Not just us but any club that gets into the Champions League understands that. It’s the most elite competition in Europe, and it demands a lot.

So I think every club that qualifies sees it as an opportunity to strengthen, not just with age, but with players who’ve already performed at that level. That’s the key difference—players comfortable at that level, not stepping up to it.”

A clear example of the type of player Tottenham are now targeting is Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.

At just 25 years old, the Cameroonian has already racked up 136 Premier League appearances and 22 international caps, offering the ideal blend of youth and elite-level experience.

Tottenham are also reportedly interested in Sporting Charleroi midfielder Adem Zorgane.

As per DZ Foot, the Algerian international has attracted Spurs’ attention due to his versatility, composure, and impressive experience for a 25-year-old.

Zorgane is considered a “complete, young, and experienced player” and could be available for a fee in the region of just £9 million.

That relatively low price has certainly sparked interest at Tottenham, who are actively scouting him ahead of a potential move.

The 15-cap Algeria international played 41 matches across all competitions last season and captained Charleroi under manager Rik De Mil, showcasing his leadership and consistency.

With just two years left on his contract, Tottenham could find themselves in a strong bargaining position should they decide to make an approach.

Zorgane himself recently hinted at a desire for a new challenge, saying, “I’ve been here for four years. It’s difficult to stay at a club for that long when you want to go further.” This admission may open the door for Spurs to lure him to the Premier League.
