Unbelievable Move! Vikings Lock in a Massive 6'2" Cornerback!

The Vikings secure A.J. Green III, former Browns cornerback, with a promising futures contract.

The Minnesota Vikings have officially signed A.J. Green III, the former cornerback from the Cleveland Browns, to a reserve/futures contract, as announced on Tuesday.

Aged 25, Green spent the past four seasons with the Browns after joining them as an undrafted free agent from Oklahoma State in 2020. During his tenure with the Browns, he moved between the active roster and the practice squad, making 34 appearances, including two starts. Green accumulated just over 300 defensive snaps and close to 500 special teams snaps over the last four years.

Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has prior familiarity with Green from his time as the Browns’ VP of football operations (2020-21).

While Green had limited playtime in 2020 and 2023, he played a significant role as a key special teams player and backup corner for the Browns in 2021 and 2022. During these two seasons, he made 29 appearances, recording two interceptions, seven passes defended, and two fumble recoveries in somewhat restricted action. In 2021, Green earned a notable 90.3 PFF coverage grade on 116 snaps, although his coverage grade dropped to 41.8 the following year.

Despite going undrafted in 2020, Green possesses impressive size at 6’2″ and 200 pounds. Although his athletic test scores at the 2020 combine were subpar, contributing to his undrafted status, his height and special teams experience make him a valuable asset.

In the upcoming 2024 season, Green is expected to compete for a spot on the Vikings’ roster or practice squad. The Vikings’ cornerback room currently includes Byron Murphy Jr., Mekhi Blackmon, Akayleb Evans, Andrew Booth Jr., Joejuan Williams, Jaylin Williams, NaJee Thompson, and now, A.J. Green III.
