Leicester City Set to Offload Key Assets This Summer to Balance Books After Championship Relegation
Brentford are reportedly targeting Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, as the Foxes prepare to offload key players following their relegation to the Championship.
Hermansen, City’s current number one, has been sidelined for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery for a lingering groin injury.
His future at the club is now uncertain, with a summer move increasingly likely.
Due to the financial pressures of dropping out of the Premier League, Leicester must rework their budget and generate income through player sales.
Hermansen, who joined from Brondby two years ago for £6.5 million, could bring in a significant profit. The Sun reports he is valued at £25 million.
Brentford are said to be ready to “splash out” on the 24-year-old, who would join a strong Danish presence at the club under manager Thomas Frank.
Fellow Danes Christian Norgaard, Mikkel Damsgaard, and Mathias Jensen have all played key roles in Brentford’s recent Premier League success.
Currently in ninth place after three straight wins, Brentford are chasing European qualification.
If Manchester City win the FA Cup, eighth place in the Premier League would secure a Europa Conference League spot—Brentford sit just one point behind Bournemouth in that position.
Hermansen stood out as one of Leicester’s top performers earlier in the season, delivering a string of impressive displays.
However, a groin injury in December disrupted his campaign. Although he returned in February, he struggled to reach his earlier form.
Head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy recently confirmed that Hermansen had been playing through injury and underwent surgery to ensure full fitness for the summer.
This move also helps protect Leicester’s bargaining position in the transfer market.
With Hermansen out, Jakub Stolarczyk will start the remaining matches of the season.
The 23-year-old Polish keeper impressed in the weekend’s 2–0 victory over Southampton, helping secure just the club’s second clean sheet of the season.
Van Nistelrooy has expressed his belief that Stolarczyk has the quality to be a Premier League goalkeeper.
If Hermansen is sold and Van Nistelrooy stays on as manager, the young Pole is expected to become the club’s new first-choice keeper.
