Khusanov’s agent, Gairat Khasbiullin, disclosed that Newcastle were serious contenders for his client before City finalized the deal.

Khasbiullin shed light on the situation, explaining: “Newcastle were very close to completing the deal.
They remained one of the favorites to sign him and were the last club to withdraw from the race against City.
