Warrington predicts Leeds will profit significantly from one summer transfer departure

Speaking to Leeds United News on 15 July, former boxing world champion Josh Warrington was asked about the future of star winger Crysencio Summerville, with several clubs reportedly interested in the player, according to Fabrizio Romano on 13 July.

Warrington acknowledged that the club could make a significant amount of money by selling Summerville, but he expressed hope that the 22-year-old would stay to help Leeds United secure promotion back to the Premier League.

“You look at the money you could bring in, with the rules and regulations, we could make a lot of money,” Warrington said. “When he puts the shirt on, he scores goals. He had a lot of good games last season. So I’d be disappointed to see him go.

“We know what we’ve got with him, Farke knows how he works. At Elland Road, there’s a lot of pressure. He’s learned that, he knows what it’s about. I’d like to see him stay.”

Leeds United must prioritize what’s best for the club, not just Summerville. Although the club would like to keep Summerville, there has been much discussion about not standing in his way if an acceptable offer comes in, as noted by Ben Jacobs on 24 June.

However, the current situation means the club doesn’t need to sell anyone else this summer. Unless a deal aligns with their terms, there’s no reason to accept any offers for Summerville.

Summerville might want to challenge himself in the Premier League again, having proven he’s a standout player in the Championship. Still, he is contracted at Elland Road until 2026. Typically, this would be the optimal time to cash in on an asset, especially if the player is keen on moving, but that’s not the case right now.

A substantial amount of money from a transfer could certainly aid the team in rebuilding the squad for another promotion push, but there’s no guarantee that selling Summerville would be the best move for the team.
