Report: Steve Cooper aims to bring ‘incredible’ Championship star to Leicester City following recent release

Steve Cooper has had to move quickly to identify a replacement for recently departed midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who has joined Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Dewsbury-Hall will be a massive loss for the Foxes, having scored 12 goals in the 2023/24 Championship campaign.

The English midfielder sought to reconnect with former Foxes boss Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, who also left Leicester City following their promotion from the Championship.

In response, Cooper has swiftly brought in new players, including Bobby De Cordova-Reid, who will provide necessary Premier League experience for Leicester City.

Serie A star Caleb Okoli is also moving closer to a transfer to the King Power Stadium for a reported fee of over £12m.

Cooper is additionally targeting a Championship attacking midfielder following his release.

Leicester City are reportedly considering a move for Callum O’Hare, who has been on their radar since January, according to The Athletic.

The former Coventry City midfielder scored a brace in the Championship against Leicester City this season, as the Foxes lost 3-1.

O’Hare has been released by Coventry City after a successful season with the Sky Blues, contributing nine goals in just 31 matches from attacking midfield.

The 26-year-old’s performances last season earned praise from Coventry City boss Mark Robins, who described the Englishman as “incredible for the football club.”

Like Dewsbury-Hall, O’Hare has proven his pedigree at the Championship level during his time with Coventry City, a quality that could translate into Premier League success.

O’Hare is often utilized slightly further forward than Dewsbury-Hall, but Cooper may allow him more attacking freedom in the center of the park.

To maximize O’Hare’s potential, both Wilfred Ndidi and Harry Winks will need to stay at the club for another season, as their defensive stability will provide the support O’Hare needs to create chances.

If O’Hare is given the platform to exercise creative freedom in the middle for Leicester City, he could become a significant asset for Cooper. Leicester City would struggle to find a better Dewsbury-Hall replacement than O’Hare, especially considering he would arrive at the King Power Stadium on a free transfer.
