West Ham United are reportedly pursuing a move for former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, per CaughtOffside.
The Hammers are said to be showing “great determination” to secure the 28-year-old on a free transfer, aiming for another low-cost addition to strengthen Graham Potter’s attacking ranks.
Earlier this month, West Ham signed ex-Newcastle and Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson on a free and could now take a calculated risk on Calvert-Lewin, who left Everton after his contract expired in June.
His free-agent status has attracted attention from several English and overseas clubs, including Newcastle, Sunderland, and sides in Germany, MLS, and Saudi Arabia.
However, his high wage demands—reportedly around £100,000 per week—have made some teams hesitant. In addition, his lengthy injury history is a concern.
GIVEMESPORT’s Dean Jones has described it as “a major red flag,” noting that the former England international managed only 26 appearances in all competitions last season and has missed 50 games over the past three campaigns.
Despite these risks, West Ham appear open to taking the gamble in hopes of adding further depth to Potter’s forward line.
Their summer business has been active in recent days, with Wilson and former Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen arriving.
Earlier signings include full-backs Kyle Walker-Peters and El Hadji Malick Diouf, while Mohammed Kudus has departed for Tottenham.
Transfer activity may not be over yet. GIVEMESPORT’s Ben Jacobs reports that West Ham are also considering another Leicester player—Bilal El Khannouss.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is being monitored by several Premier League clubs and has a £22.5m relegation release clause.
If completed, the Calvert-Lewin deal would continue West Ham’s strategy of combining shrewd free transfers with targeted spending to strengthen key areas before the transfer deadline.
