After netting six goals during a loan spell at Swiss club Grasshoppers last season, 21-year-old Gambian striker Adama Bojang has shown glimpses of serious potential in the attacking third—potential that may soon have pun-loving headline writers and country music fans buzzing.

All six of those goals came in his final 12 Swiss Super League appearances. Remarkably, half were scored in one standout performance: April’s victory over FC Luzern, in which Bojang netted the first hat-trick of his senior career.

Following a slow start in Switzerland, the explosive forward came to life in the spring.

With West Ham United eager to inject more pace and athleticism up front—particularly as doubts persist about Niclas Fullkrug’s limited mobility despite his desire to stay—a player nicknamed “The Hurricane” for his blistering speed could be a shrewd acquisition.

And especially so if the £10 million price tag reportedly demanded by Ligue 1 side Stade Reims proves to be inflated.

West Ham’s Interest Confirmed

West Ham are not alone in their admiration of Bojang. David Moyes’ Everton are also reportedly in the mix, while The Guardian’s Ed Aarons notes that both Brentford and Italian giants AC Milan have joined the race.

However, Aarons suggests that Reims might be open to offers well below the £10 million mark—potentially as low as £5 million.

While Bojang’s record in France (nine appearances without a goal) offers little to write home about, a £5 million fee falls comfortably into the “low risk, high reward” category.

For West Ham, who aim to rebuild under Graham Potter by targeting young, hungry talents, Bojang could represent an ideal first signing—especially under the guidance of Kyle Macaulay, the club’s recruitment lead and a former Brighton scout.

A Glimpse of What’s to Come?

Bojang’s hat-trick against Luzern was particularly impressive for the variety in his finishing.

His first was an intelligent chip into the far corner after the goalkeeper had been caught off his line.

The second came from a deft near-post flick, and he sealed his treble with a powerful header from a deep cross—showcasing composure, instinct, and aerial prowess.

Swiss outlet Blick heaped praise on the Gambian forward in their post-match analysis, noting: “The 20-year-old from Gambia shone in every respect in the duel with FC Luzern.

The Grasshoppers striker impressed with his formidable technique.

The loanee from Stade Reims demonstrated why he can be expected to have a promising career in the future.”

Where that promising career unfolds remains to be seen—but a move to the London Stadium may just be the next big step.
