Tottenham’s Timo Werner Yet to Justify Postecoglou’s Trust

This summer, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou opted to bring Timo Werner back on loan, following the forward’s short stint with the club last season.

Despite publicly backing Werner and regularly including him in the lineup, Postecoglou has yet to see a return on his trust, as the German forward has struggled with finishing.

Werner’s current form has not only impacted his Tottenham performances but also hindered his chances of reclaiming a spot in the German national team.

Meanwhile, reports from SportBILD suggest that Germany’s national team coach, Julian Nagelsmann, has reached out to Werner, assuring him that his international career is still viable.

The 28-year-old forward, with 24 goals in 57 appearances for Germany, reportedly received encouragement from Nagelsmann, who indicated that a return to “die Mannschaft” is possible if Werner’s performance picks up at Tottenham.

For many Tottenham supporters, there’s already discussion about Werner’s loan being cut short in January, with some preferring the club to replace him with another wide player.

However, according to SportBILD, such an early termination is unlikely. The expectation is that Werner will remain at Tottenham for the full loan term, lasting until next summer.

Should Tottenham choose not to activate their purchase option for Werner, RB Leipzig would then need to find a different buyer, as the forward’s contract with the German club extends until 2026.

Werner’s future thus remains uncertain, contingent on his ability to meet expectations at Tottenham and his potential resurgence under Nagelsmann’s watchful eye.
