West Ham United’s results may not always show it, but their squad does contain real quality.
Players such as Freddie Potts, Jarrod Bowen, Mateus Fernandes, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters give the team a strong foundation and should help steer them clear of relegation trouble as the season progresses.
However, the one area that has remained a persistent problem is the striker position. Neither Niclas Füllkrug nor Callum Wilson have convinced as reliable goal scorers.
Füllkrug has failed to produce a goal or assist in seven league appearances, and with his January exit looking likely, few supporters will be disappointed.
Wilson has managed two goals in nine outings, but his injury history and inconsistent form mean he cannot be depended upon.
With the January transfer window approaching, West Ham clearly need a new centre-forward—and they may finally have a solution.
Reports from Turkey claim the Hammers are among several clubs targeting in-form AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott.
Everton, Leeds United and Stuttgart are also interested, and AZ are said to value him at around €30m (£26m). While the competition may make the deal difficult, Parrott’s current form suggests he would be worth the effort.
The Irish forward represents a major upgrade on both Füllkrug and Wilson for one obvious reason: he scores goals.
While West Ham’s current strikers have managed only two goals combined, Parrott has already netted 13 times and provided two assists in just 14 appearances this season, averaging a remarkable 1.07 goal contributions per game.
His prolific run supports earlier comparisons made between him and Harry Kane during his youth days.
Parrott also offers long-term value. At just 23 years old, he has plenty of room to grow, and his injury record has stabilised in recent seasons.
His ability to perform in big moments is another standout trait—evidenced by his brace against Portugal and a dramatic hat-trick versus Hungary that sent Ireland into the World Cup play-offs.
Given his age, form, and big-game mentality, West Ham should make every effort to bring Parrott in this January, as he could be the striker they have been searching for.
