Magassa shows no sign of abandoning his West Ham ambitions or his Premier League dream for a switch to Serie A champions Napoli.
Just three months after France Under-21 midfielder Soungoutou Magassa completed his £14 million move from Monaco to West Ham, speculation has already surfaced about his future.
Reports in Italy suggested that Napoli recently contacted the Hammers to explore a potential January deal, with Antonio Conte short on midfielders due to injuries to Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Billy Gilmour and Kevin De Bruyne.
Ahead of Napoli’s Champions League win over Qarabag, Conte even admitted he only had two fit central midfielders: Stanislav Lobotka and Scott McTominay.
Magassa, however, quickly reaffirmed his commitment to West Ham, even as Italian outlet Il Mattino doubled down on claims of Napoli’s interest.
They report that Magassa is Napoli’s second-choice target, with their main priority still Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo.
The publication also claims West Ham quoted Napoli a £15 million valuation—though such reports should be viewed cautiously.
In reality, West Ham allowing Magassa to leave so soon seems unlikely.
Nuno Espirito Santo has repeatedly stressed that the young midfielder simply needs time to adapt to Premier League football.
After an encouraging display off the bench against Burnley, Nuno highlighted Magassa’s energy, quality and long-term potential, urging patience while the club helps him settle and find the right partnerships in midfield.
Magassa himself appears determined to make an impact. Speaking to the club’s Instagram channel, he said he is happy in London, grateful for the welcome he’s received, and working hard—on and off the pitch—to integrate, learn English, and show supporters what he can do.
While another summer signing, goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, is reportedly already at risk of being moved on if West Ham can recover much of their £18 million outlay, Magassa’s situation is very different.
With limited young, athletic midfield options beyond Freddie Potts and Mateus Fernandes, the Hammers are expected to keep faith with the Frenchman.
Despite Napoli’s interest, all indications point to Magassa staying put and focusing on his development in East London.
