A recent report on August 8th revealed that 25-year-old Trevoh Chalobah has reconsidered his stance on a summer move after learning he would not be included in Chelsea’s Premier League squad next season.
West Ham United has reportedly expressed interest in signing Chalobah, seeking to pair him with Max Kilman as a center-back, with Crystal Palace and Fulham also competing for his signature.
Earlier, on July 24th, GiveMeSport noted that Chalobah was in no hurry to leave Chelsea, his boyhood club, but this situation appears to have shifted.
West Ham, managed by David Moyes, has faced criticism for its defensive shortcomings, despite Moyes’ focus on a solid defensive strategy.
Julen Lopetegui, preparing for the upcoming season, aims to strengthen his defense, having already signed Wolves’ captain Max Kilman for £40 million, and is expected to bring in Aaron Wan-Bissaka as well.
Chalobah, a product of Chelsea’s academy at Cobham Training Centre, has shown his abilities on the field, even becoming emotional after scoring his sole Premier League goal last season.
However, he is now deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, which has caught the attention of several clubs, including West Ham.
With Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd, and Konstantinos Mavropanos all linked with potential exits, although it’s unlikely all will depart before August 30th, Lopetegui needs to be ready to fill any gaps in the squad.
Chalobah, having made 80 appearances for Chelsea since returning from a loan at Lorient in 2021, could be an immediate fit for West Ham’s defense.
However, the transfer fee West Ham would need to secure the 25-year-old remains uncertain, as he is under contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2028.
