West Ham United Will Pursue Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah if They Can Offload Either Nayef Aguerd or Kurt Zouma, Says Alex Crook
On Tuesday, July 23, talkSPORT reported that West Ham, along with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, are keen on signing versatile defender Trevoh Chalobah, following recent developments at Chelsea.
Chalobah has been excluded from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of America, suggesting the club may be looking to offload him this summer.
Julen Lopetegui’s side is interested in pursuing the 25-year-old, but they first need to find buyers for one or both of their current defenders, Aguerd and Zouma, especially after signing Wolves captain Max Kilman.
Lopetegui has openly expressed his intention to overhaul West Ham’s defense ahead of the new Premier League season.
While Kilman’s arrival marks the beginning of this defensive revamp, further changes are needed before the campaign begins.
Last season, both Aguerd and Zouma were part of one of the league’s weakest defensive units. Although there was anticipation that at least one of them would be sold this summer, neither has yet moved.
Chalobah would be a notable improvement over either, offering significant potential for growth and fewer fitness concerns compared to Zouma.
If the terms are favorable for Tim Steidten and Lopetegui, pursuing Chalobah could be a wise move for West Ham as they prepare for the new season. However, they need to create space in their squad first.
West Ham must act quickly to sell Zouma or Aguerd to avoid missing out on Chalobah or other defensive targets in the coming weeks.
