West Ham to compete with Arsenal for 17-goal striker following new loan update – report
Arsenal may rival West Ham for Evan Ferguson, but their loan spots are currently filled, says Ben Jacobs.
On 21 January, a journalist reported that West Ham have shown interest in the 20-year-old striker, Evan Ferguson, though they could face competition from Arsenal and Bournemouth.
Ferguson is on Mikel Arteta’s radar, but with Arsenal’s Premier League loan spots already filled and no break clause in Raheem Sterling’s loan, the Gunners would need to buy Ferguson if talks with Brighton progress before the winter window closes.
West Ham, in need of a new striker, are competing with Arsenal for Ferguson’s signature.
As the February 3 transfer deadline approaches, the Hammers’ striker shortage grows more urgent, with Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio both sidelined for extended periods.
Danny Ings is currently the only recognized striker at the club.
Additionally, Jarrod Bowen, who has occasionally played as a number nine under David Moyes and Julen Lopetegui, is also unavailable.
This further highlights the need for a new forward, and Ferguson could be the ideal fit for the club.
Having struggled for regular playing time at Brighton in the past two seasons, Ferguson might find an opportunity to become the main striker under his former manager, Graham Potter, at West Ham.
Potter has a proven track record of getting the best out of Ferguson, and if a move for Jhon Duran isn’t feasible, the young Irishman may be the next best option for the Hammers.
