£25m Signing Faces Setback in Injury-Plagued Debut Season
West Ham have confirmed that Crysencio Summerville will miss the remainder of the season following surgery on a hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old has struggled with injuries during his debut campaign at the club, making only 19 Premier League appearances, with just seven starts.
Summerville sustained the injury during new manager Graham Potter’s first match in charge, a 2-1 FA Cup third-round defeat to Aston Villa in January.
The winger, who signed from Leeds United last summer for £25 million, will continue his rehabilitation at West Ham’s Rush Green training ground.
Performance director Richard Collinge stated that Summerville is “targeting a return for next season.”
It has been a tough season for West Ham, who currently sit 17th in the Premier League, ahead of only the three relegated sides.
The arrival of Potter in January has yet to yield the desired turnaround, with the former Chelsea and Brighton boss securing just three wins so far.
West Ham’s remaining fixtures include a home derby against fellow strugglers Tottenham on Saturday, followed by matches against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, and Ipswich.
The club looks set to conclude a disappointing campaign well below expectations.
