West Ham step up search for new goalkeeper with Leicester’s Mads Hermansen on their radar
Mads Hermansen joined Leicester City in 2023 and played a key role in their Championship-winning campaign during his debut season in England.
However, the following season proved far less successful, as the Foxes endured a disappointing return to the Premier League, suffering relegation without much resistance.
Despite the team’s struggles, Hermansen stood out as one of their better performers and has now attracted interest from West Ham United.
West Ham eye Hermansen amid Leicester’s PSR concerns
With Lukasz Fabianski departing the club, new Hammers boss Graham Potter is in the market for a new goalkeeper.
The veteran Polish shot-stopper served West Ham reliably for years, albeit mainly as a backup in his final campaigns.
According to talkSPORT (21 June), West Ham have now identified Hermansen as a target.
Leicester, facing mounting pressure from Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), are reportedly open to offers, especially after already facing charges since the season concluded.
The London club had previously been linked with Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale but now see Hermansen as a more attainable option as Potter looks to strengthen his squad.
Potter is said to be keen on bringing in serious competition for current first-choice keeper Alphonse Areola.
A new number one is what West Ham truly need
While adding depth to the goalkeeping department is a priority, simply signing competition for Areola may not be enough.
The Frenchman endured a mixed season with several inconsistent displays that arguably cost the team valuable points.
Bringing in another keeper merely to challenge him could backfire, adding pressure and leading to further mistakes.
Instead, West Ham should focus on recruiting a clear first-choice goalkeeper to take charge of the position. Such a move would offer greater stability and improve the defensive foundation of the squad.
Ideally, Potter will take this approach before the transfer window closes at the London Stadium.
