Midfielder Raphael Onyedika has emerged as one of West Ham United’s primary transfer targets this summer, according to Roshane Thomas of The Athletic.
West Ham endured a frustrating season. Julen Lopetegui, who replaced David Moyes before the campaign, failed to get results despite significant financial support and was dismissed in January.
His replacement, Graham Potter, has had a mixed start, with Evan Ferguson being the only signing brought in on loan so far.
Although Potter’s impact has been limited, it would be premature to fully assess his performance without a proper pre-season to implement his philosophy.
Nonetheless, the Hammers are already planning for reinforcements as they aim to bounce back from a lacklustre campaign.
One of the club’s main targets is Raphael Onyedika. According to Thomas, West Ham are highly interested in signing the 24-year-old midfielder from Club Brugge.
Since joining the Belgian side in 2022, Onyedika has become a key figure in their midfield. Thomas noted:
“Raphael Onyedika of Club Brugge is one of (West Ham’s) top transfer targets. West Ham are one of many Premier League teams that want to sign the 24-year-old defensive midfielder this summer.
Onyedika’s deal expires in the summer of 2027, and this contract does not feature an option to extend.
The Nigeria international has been a key player for the Belgian side this season, registering two goals and two assists across 51 appearances.”
Despite having a strong midfield on paper—featuring Tomas Soucek, James Ward-Prowse, Lucas Paqueta, and Edson Alvarez—Potter is eager to add depth and quality.
Carlos Soler is expected to return to PSG, and West Ham have also shown interest in Angel Gomes.
Bringing in Onyedika, who has been described as a “fantastic” talent, could be a significant move for the Hammers.
The Nigerian international’s all-around midfield capabilities and European experience would make him a valuable asset as Potter looks to reshape the squad and guide West Ham to a more competitive position in the Premier League next season.
