West Ham United Eye Sheffield United Midfielder Sydie Peck as Potential Midfield Reinforcement This Summer
Graham Potter is targeting several players from the Championship this summer, and Sydie Peck is among those under consideration.
According to The Guardian, the young English midfielder has caught the attention of the London-based club.
Peck, 20, enjoyed a breakout season with Sheffield United, stepping into the role previously held by Ollie Arblaster, who suffered a season-ending knee injury during the first Steel City derby of the season against Sheffield Wednesday.
Peck’s strong performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with Brighton & Hove Albion also reportedly keeping tabs on him.
Over the course of the 2023/24 season, Peck featured in 42 Championship matches, starting 32 of them under manager Chris Wilder, who praised the midfielder’s contributions as “outstanding.”
His efforts were instrumental in guiding the Blades to the play-off final, although they narrowly missed out on promotion after a 2-1 defeat to Sunderland at Wembley Stadium.
As a result, they’ll remain in the second tier while Sunderland join West Ham in the Premier League next season.
A transfer to London would mark a return for Peck, who was previously part of Arsenal’s academy setup before moving to Bramall Lane in 2021.
A move back to the capital could now be on the horizon, should West Ham decide to pursue their interest.
The Guardian reports that Peck is a player admired by West Ham, though he’s not the only Championship talent on their radar.
They are also tracking Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney and Sunderland forward Eliezer Mayenda, one of the standout performers in the recent play-off final.
That trio adds to a growing list of players from the EFL linked with Potter’s side. As reported by the Daily Mail, Southampton’s Shea Charles is also a target.
In addition, talkSPORT has linked West Ham with Charles’s teenage teammate Tyler Dibling, as well as Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Aaron Ramsdale, and Kyle Walker-Peters.
Notably, Walker-Peters is expected to become a free agent this summer. However, interest in Ramsdale appears to be limited, according to The Guardian.
Despite the growing attention around Peck, Sheffield United are in a strong position. The club has secured the 20-year-old on a long-term contract, meaning they are under no immediate pressure to sell.
With more Premier League clubs turning to the Championship as a cost-effective source of young talent, players like Peck are becoming increasingly valuable.
If West Ham—or any other top-flight club—are serious about acquiring him, they’ll likely need to offer a significant fee to convince Sheffield United to part with one of their brightest young stars.
