West Ham United find themselves in urgent need of attacking reinforcements following an injury setback to new signing Daniel Cummings and growing fan unrest over the club’s striker decisions.

The Hammers recently confirmed the arrival of 32-year-old Callum Wilson after his Newcastle departure, but the move has sparked frustration among supporters due to Wilson’s poor injury history — having missed the equivalent of three full seasons in five years.

This decision adds to a long-running narrative among West Ham fans who believe in the so-called “striker curse” that has plagued the club during David Sullivan’s ownership.

Since 2010, West Ham have signed 57 forwards, with few success stories and many falling victim to injuries, inconsistency, or short-lived spells.

The recent blow involving Daniel Cummings has only added to the frustration. The 20-year-old, signed from Celtic amid high expectations, has undergone shoulder surgery and will miss the start of the season.

Cummings had impressed with 30 goals for Celtic B last term and was brought in as a long-term first-team prospect.

Despite initially linking up with the U21s, he was expected to make a swift progression to the senior squad. Now, he’s sidelined just a month after joining.

This injury has pushed West Ham to step up efforts to sign another young striker — 18-year-old Idrissa Gueye from Metz.

Nicknamed the “next Sadio Mane,” the 6ft 2in Senegalese talent impressed West Ham’s head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay during a recent friendly.

Gueye, who plays alongside new West Ham arrival El Hadji Malick Diouf, is reportedly available for around £13.5 million.

Though initial reports suggested manager Graham Potter wasn’t prioritising a striker signing, fans suspect that Wilson’s arrival was influenced by owner David Sullivan.

With Cummings sidelined and concerns around the age and fitness of Wilson and Fullkrug, West Ham are pushing for Gueye — a signing who could be groomed through the U21s but is also seen as capable of stepping into the first team sooner rather than later.
