Leeds United close in on record-breaking James Trafford deal
Leeds United are reportedly on the verge of completing the biggest signing in the club’s history as they step up their pursuit of Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford.
The Whites have made a relatively quiet start to the summer transfer window, bringing in Harry Wilson on a free transfer and defender Tarik Muharemovic for £34.1m as a replacement for Pascal Struijk, who departed for Brighton.
However, Daniel Farke is now targeting a marquee addition as Leeds prepare for another Premier League campaign.

According to TalkSport’s Alex Crook, Leeds are in advanced talks to sign Trafford in a deal that could be worth as much as £50m.
If completed, the transfer would comfortably surpass the club’s current record fee of £35m, paid for Georginio Rutter.
Manchester City re-signed Trafford from Burnley for £27m but the England international has struggled for regular first-team opportunities after Gianluigi Donnarumma arrived to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Trafford is now keen to secure a starting role, something Leeds can offer after Karl Darlow’s departure and Illan Meslier’s exit from the senior goalkeeping picture.
The report also claims Trafford would become Leeds’ highest-paid player, overtaking Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s reported £100,000-a-week salary.
Despite limited appearances at City, Trafford’s ability has earned glowing praise from some of football’s biggest names.
Former academy teammate Cole Palmer described him as a future “world-class” goalkeeper, highlighting his confidence, work ethic and outstanding performances in training.
Ex-City manager Pep Guardiola also spoke highly of the shot-stopper, admitting he had rarely seen a goalkeeper of Trafford’s quality on the training ground.
If Leeds complete the deal, Trafford would arrive as the club’s new first-choice goalkeeper and a major statement of intent ahead of the 2026/27 season.
