Leicester City Among Several Clubs Attempting to Persuade Juventus Winger Matias Soule to Join Them This Summer
New manager Steve Cooper had his first thorough look at the Leicester City squad during the club’s initial pre-season friendly against Villarreal on Saturday. The Foxes won the behind-closed-doors match 2-1, with goals from Jamie Vardy and Stephy Mavididi.
This game provided Cooper with a clearer understanding of the squad’s needs ahead of the summer transfer window.
Following the £30 million sale of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea to comply with Premier League spending regulations, Leicester have made four new signings this summer. Abdul Fatwau, who was on loan last season, has now joined permanently, along with Caleb Okoli, Micheal Golding, and Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
Leicester are keenly interested in Matias Soule, and recent updates reveal his preferred destination. Soule impressed during his loan at Frosinone from Juventus, scoring 11 goals and adding three assists despite his loan club’s relegation from Serie A. As Leicester seeks to strengthen their squad, a winger is among their top priorities.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Soule’s situation, stating: “Matias Soule to Leicester is currently unchanged. Leicester offered a substantial amount to Juventus, but the player prefers to join Roma.
The situation remains open, with Roma pushing hard. Soule is determined to play for Roma, under Daniele De Rossi. The key is whether Roma can meet Juventus’ asking price.”
Soule’s desire to remain in Italy and join Roma complicates Leicester’s pursuit. Juventus will not sell him to Roma unless their valuation is met, and Leicester have already had a £21 million bid for the 21-year-old winger turned down. They face competition from Premier League clubs West Ham, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace, in addition to Roma.
It is unclear how much Juventus would be willing to accept for Soule, but it is likely to be a significant fee. Former Juventus youth team-mate Nicolo Turco praised Soule’s talent, telling Tuttomercatoweb: “Soule? In training, he would do incredible things, taking the ball and scoring goals on his own. I expected a great start from him, but his performances have been truly devastating.”
Securing Soule would likely consume a large portion of Leicester’s transfer budget, but his talent could prove crucial in helping the club remain in the Premier League this season.
