Head coach Julen Lopetegui has urged West Ham fans to reserve judgment on him until the end of the 2024/25 season, following a difficult start in east London.
Lopetegui, who replaced David Moyes over the summer, has overseen a disappointing beginning to the season.
The Hammers have made history by losing their first three home matches and were recently handed a heavy 5-1 defeat by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
Despite spending £120 million on nine new signings during the summer transfer window, the results have been underwhelming.
However, Lopetegui remains unfazed by the criticism and insists he is focused on improving the team.
“The coach’s job is always like this,” said Lopetegui. “But it doesn’t matter. The most important pressure I feel is to be ready for the next match.
We have the experience and are constantly thinking about how to improve the team, develop our skills, and win matches.
That’s the real pressure I face daily as a coach. The Premier League has 38 matches, and we’ll talk again in May.”
West Ham will face Brentford this Saturday, followed by a home match against Ipswich. Lopetegui is hopeful that these fixtures will help the team turn their season around.
“It’s always crucial to get a win, especially after losing the last two matches as we did,” Lopetegui added. “The Brentford match will be important for us—three points against a strong team.
A win boosts confidence and brings a lot of positive momentum, and we’re working hard to achieve that.
We knew there would be challenges, but it’s our job to find ways to improve and secure victories.”
In other news, League Two side Bromley have signed former Arsenal, West Ham, and England defender Carl Jenkinson.
The 32-year-old returns to English football after a stint with Australia’s Newcastle Jets.
Jenkinson began his career at Charlton Athletic, where he worked under current Bromley manager Andy Woodman.
