West Ham may target experienced Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier this summer as part of new manager Julen Lopetegui’s squad overhaul.
Lopetegui, who has replaced David Moyes, is actively reshaping the team. The latest development involves club captain Kurt Zouma, who is set to leave for the UAE in a permanent deal after the club approved a free transfer.
West Ham is still seeking a right-back following Ben Johnson’s departure to Ipswich Town as a free agent and with Vladimir Coufal entering the final year of his contract.
Initially, Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka was a key target, but a proposed £15 million move has stalled.
Wan-Bissaka is reportedly considering the possibility of staying at United until his contract expires in 12 months, leaving on a free transfer.
According to The Telegraph, West Ham might shift their focus to Trippier. The England international also has a year remaining on his contract and Newcastle could be open to selling him.
Trippier, who previously played for Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer.
Although Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has downplayed these rumors, he suggested that the club might sell some first-team players due to Financial Fair Play regulations.
Howe commented on Trippier, saying, “I see him as a crucial part of our team and squad going forward.
However, while Financial Fair Play remains a concern, it’s possible that some players could leave.
I won’t discuss individual players, but naturally, there will be departures alongside new arrivals.”
He added, “This doesn’t mean every player is available for sale. We want to retain our top players and will make every effort to do so.
That said, some players will have to leave due to our financial situation. Kieran isn’t actively seeking a move; he’s been excellent in training and is determined to fight for his place.”
West Ham has already strengthened their defense with a £40 million investment in Wolves defender Max Kilman, reuniting him with Lopetegui.
Additionally, the club has signed Niclas Fullkrug, Crysencio Summerville, Guido Rodriguez, Luis Guilherme, and Wes Foderingham this summer.
