West Ham United have reportedly had a loan bid for Barcelona youngster Hector Fort accepted, though the agreement does not include an option to buy, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Graham Potter’s side are seeking much-needed reinforcements and turned their attention to Barcelona after a sluggish start to the season.

Initial discussions centred around a possible move for midfielder Marc Casado, but the 20-year-old rejected the chance to leave Camp Nou.

With Casado unwilling to depart, West Ham switched their focus to Fort, and negotiations have now resulted in a loan deal being approved.

The Hammers’ struggles early in the campaign have underlined the need for new arrivals if they are to steer clear of a relegation battle.

Fort has emerged as a solution, with West Ham moving quickly to strike a deal. The 19-year-old defender is open to the switch but made it clear that his stay would only be temporary.

There is no option to make the move permanent, as Fort views the Premier League stint as a development opportunity before returning to Barcelona at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Although West Ham are in pole position, they are not alone in their pursuit. Everton, Serie B side Como, and Mallorca have all shown interest in the defender, enquiring about his availability.

His reputation rose last season after a series of injuries to Barcelona’s senior full-backs gave him the chance to step into the first team.

Fort went on to feature 24 times in La Liga, showcasing his ability at the highest level.

However, despite his breakthrough, Fort does not appear to be in Hansi Flick’s immediate plans.

He was used sparingly in pre-season and was left out of Barcelona’s opening two matchday squads of the current campaign.

With the club eager to trim their wage bill before the transfer window closes, sanctioning a loan exit has been seen as the most practical solution.
