West Ham United may soon have the chance to assess a long-term transfer target up close as their Premier League season concludes with a trip to Ipswich Town.

One name who continues to feature prominently in their transfer discussions is El Bilal Toure—a £25 million signing from UD Almeria who is desperately in need of a fresh start after a couple of injury-ridden seasons.

The Hammers are also known to be monitoring Strasbourg’s Emanuel Emegha, a breakout star in Ligue 1, while Brazilian forward Yuri Alberto, once subject of a £15 million bid from West Ham, remains of interest at the London Stadium.

Yet, El Bilal Toure, a player West Ham once targeted before his move to Atalanta in 2023, remains firmly on their radar.

Football journalist Graeme Bailey recently told Hammers News that the club could revisit their interest in the powerful Malian striker this summer.

Toure made headlines during the 2022/23 La Liga season when his seven goals were instrumental in helping Almeria avoid relegation.

His strike against Atletico Madrid and a famous winner over Barcelona were key moments in the campaign.

His performances earned him a £25 million move to Atalanta, who beat off competition from both West Ham and Everton for his signature.

However, his time in Serie A has been blighted by a serious hamstring injury that delayed his debut until January.

By then, Toure had slipped down the pecking order. Seeking playing time, he joined Bundesliga side Stuttgart on loan, but his misfortune continued.

A metatarsal fracture sidelined him for another three months, and since November, he has played fewer than 40 minutes of Bundesliga football.

Despite appearing in 17 matches, he’s only found the net three times.

If certain conditions are met, Stuttgart will be obligated to purchase Toure for £14 million. But his limited availability in Germany raises doubts, and there’s a strong chance Atalanta may need to reconsider how to offload him.

Given Toure’s troubled injury history, West Ham may be reluctant to invest heavily in a permanent deal.

A more pragmatic approach would be to pursue a loan with an option to buy, giving the club time to assess his fitness and performance.

Despite his limited appearances, Toure’s talent remains evident. Fabian Wohlgemuth, Stuttgart’s sporting director, praised the striker’s impact upon arrival: “He has shown his qualities in France, Spain, and Italy.

His exceptional speed offers a dimension we’ve been missing.”

Speed is something West Ham’s attack currently lacks, particularly with ageing options like 32-year-old Niclas Fullkrug.

Toure’s explosive pace could be the kind of X-factor new manager Graham Potter needs to inject variety and unpredictability into the forward line.

Toure’s goal-scoring record, even amid setbacks, suggests he still has much to offer. He has scored 11 times in his last 22 starts across Spain, Italy, and Germany.

Most notably, he netted a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Juventus in the Champions League this season. That goal led Stuttgart teammate Denis Undav to label him “world-class.”

The Bundesliga’s official website has even drawn comparisons between Toure and Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez.

Like Nunez, Toure is a physically imposing presence with blistering speed, capable of brilliant moments despite an occasionally erratic style.

“Both are strong, powerful players with explosive pace and are not shy of scoring big goals,” they noted.

While injuries have disrupted his progress, there’s still the sense that if El Bilal Toure can put together a consistent run of games, he could become a nightmare for defenders.

And that potential remains hugely appealing for a West Ham side seeking greater attacking variety and effectiveness heading into a new chapter under Potter.
