Following Edson Alvarez’s departure to Fenerbahce on loan, West Ham United have wasted little time in moving for a potential replacement, tabling an opening bid for a towering 6ft 2 midfielder.

Just two years after his arrival at the London Stadium, Alvarez has sealed a temporary move to Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

According to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, West Ham have now lodged an initial bid for AS Monaco’s Soungoutou Magassa.

The 21-year-old, standing at 6ft 2, has emerged as a prime candidate to take over Alvarez’s role. Not only can he anchor midfield, but he also provides versatility as a centre-back.

Football analyst Ben Mattinson described Magassa as having a “really exciting raw profile,” highlighting both his composure on the ball and his impressive passing range.

Add to that the fact that the youngster already boasts Champions League experience, and it’s easy to see why West Ham view him as an ideal long-term fit.

Should they succeed in securing his signature before the window closes, the Hammers could well be landing a hidden gem with immense potential.
