Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes has not dismissed the possibility of signing a new striker, despite expressing satisfaction with the performances of Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka in their 2-0 pre-season win over Fiorentina.

The match, held on Sunday afternoon, marked City’s final pre-season fixture. While the team impressed, none of the 19 players Cifuentes used were new additions to the squad.

The club’s current transfer strategy remains focused on moving players out before bringing anyone in.

However, an exception could be made to strengthen the forward line.

Ayew led the line from the start and netted his third goal of the summer, while Daka entered as a substitute and earned frequent praise from Cifuentes for his tireless pressing.

When asked whether he expects any new signings before Leicester’s Championship opener against Sheffield Wednesday next weekend, Cifuentes responded with a smile: “You’re going to keep asking me until September 1? Yes, we’re working on it.

“Our aim is to have the best squad possible. We’re working on both departures and arrivals. Let’s see what happens over the coming week.”

Addressing the striker situation, he added: “Jordan and Pato were both fantastic in the number nine role. I’m very pleased with their performances.

“That said, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of strengthening that area. If someone joins, it will be because we genuinely believe they can add value to the team. But I’m already very happy with the quality we have.”

Cifuentes praised the overall display against Fiorentina, saying it offered a positive sign ahead of the new campaign.

“I’m pleased with the performance,” he said. “There were a lot of positives to take and also areas we can improve.

Most importantly, I saw a team playing with expression and identity, which is exactly what I’ve been asking of them.

“We were up against a strong opponent, and I’m satisfied with how we handled the game.”
