Newcastle United have made contact over a move for a new striker who has drawn comparisons to Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres.

Eddie Howe Responds to Isak Exit Speculation

The Magpies kicked off their pre-season with a 4-0 win over Carlisle United, but momentum stalled with a 4-0 defeat to Celtic on Saturday.

Notably absent from the Celtic Park clash was star striker Alexander Isak, amid growing rumours linking him with Liverpool and clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

Naturally, manager Eddie Howe was asked about Isak’s absence and his future at the club. He explained:

“That was my decision. He travelled with us to Glasgow, but I felt it was best to send him home given the speculation.

It wouldn’t have been fair for him to be sat in the stands. But I’m confident he’ll still be a Newcastle player when the transfer window closes.”

Howe continued: “I can’t give absolute certainty on any player, but Alex is happy here. He loves the team, the staff, and the club. I fully expect him to be here when the season starts.”

Despite confidence in Isak staying, Newcastle and PIF continue to explore options to strengthen their forward line.

With Hugo Ekitike now looking more likely to join Liverpool, the Magpies have shifted focus to another French attacker.

According to Foot Mercato, both Newcastle United and Manchester United have expressed interest in signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani.

The 26-year-old spent the latter half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Juventus, where he impressed.

Juventus are reportedly making a strong push to convince Kolo Muani to remain in Turin permanently.

However, Newcastle and Manchester United have already made contact with the player’s camp.
