The 33-year-old striker is set to become a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Newcastle United, which would make his acquisition a low-cost, low-risk option from a financial standpoint.

However, there are understandable concerns regarding Wilson’s injury history.

The veteran forward endured a difficult campaign last season, failing to register a single Premier League goal due to recurring injuries, which raises doubts about his long-term reliability and impact.

According to a report from Football Insider, the Hammers have made an official approach to sign highly-rated FC Metz forward Idrissa Gueye.

The 18-year-old is attracting widespread interest, with Liverpool, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Crystal Palace all making inquiries.

European heavyweights Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also monitoring his situation.

Metz are reportedly seeking a fee in the region of £17 million, which could prove to be a bargain if Gueye fulfils his potential.

Scout Ben Mattinson has described Gueye as “exciting,” and the young striker has already started to make a name for himself in France.

Playing a key role in Metz’s promotion to Ligue 1, the teenager contributed five goals and one assist in just 17 league appearances last season.

Metz’s director has also spoken glowingly about Gueye, even likening his playing style to Olivier Giroud, who remains France’s all-time top goalscorer.

Such praise has further fuelled the anticipation surrounding the Senegalese forward.

Given that Niclas Füllkrug is now 32 and Antonio is on his way out, West Ham would benefit greatly from signing a young, high-upside striker.
