Premier League Manager Hospitalised After Feeling Unwell
Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has been admitted to hospital and will miss Sunday’s match against Manchester United.
The 47-year-old, who led the team in Monday’s game against Leicester, had reportedly been unwell for several days.
In a statement, the club confirmed that Howe is “conscious, talking with family, and receiving expert medical care.”
In Howe’s absence, assistant manager Jason Tindall and coach Graeme Jones will take charge of the team for the Premier League clash at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United also extended their best wishes, saying: “Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Eddie a speedy recovery. Further updates will be provided in due course.”
Tindall, who filled in for Howe during Friday’s pre-match press duties, said: “He’s been really poorly the last couple of days, but we’ve been in constant contact—talking three or four times a day—so preparations have not been affected.
We’ve still got time, and I’m sure he’ll be fine for the weekend.”
This isn’t the first time Howe has missed a game since joining Newcastle.
He was also absent for his first match in charge in 2021 due to testing positive for Covid-19 before a fixture against Brentford.
His current health concern marks another unexpected setback for the Magpies’ head coach.
