New Leicester City head coach, Steve Cooper, is awaiting Wilfred Ndidi’s decision on a new contract before entering the transfer market, reports Soccernet.ng. Cooper, appointed after Chelsea hired Enzo Maresca, aims to retain Ndidi, who had his best goal-scoring season under Maresca, while Kelechi Iheanacho struggled for playtime.
Both Nigerian players were offered new contracts; however, Iheanacho declined, intending to leave King Power Stadium after seven years. Ndidi is considering his options, desiring to play in the UEFA Champions League next season. Clubs like Everton, Trabzonspor, Olympique De Marseille, and Galatasaray have shown interest, with offers on the table for Ndidi, who will become a free agent on July 1.
According to Filbert Way, Cooper will know by early next week if Ndidi will stay. Regardless, Leicester is eyeing new recruits to address the departures of Yunus Akgun, Marc Albrighton, and Dennis Praet. Ensuring Ndidi’s commitment is crucial for Leicester to refine their transfer targets and avoid relegation to the EFL Championship.
Ndidi participated in two international matches for the Super Eagles during the break, with Nigeria drawing against South Africa and losing to Benin Republic.
