Wrexham sign Conor Coady from Leicester and re-acquire goalkeeper Danny Ward on a free
Wrexham are set to secure another high-profile signing with Manchester City defender Callum Doyle, who previously enjoyed a loan spell at Leicester City.
The newly promoted Championship side are reportedly close to completing a deal worth up to £8m for the 21-year-old, who can operate both at left-back and centre-back.
Doyle was part of Leicester’s promotion-winning squad two years ago and impressed again last season during a loan stint at Norwich City.
His arrival would further bolster a defence already containing several familiar faces from Leicester.
Backed by Hollywood ownership, Wrexham have not held back in the transfer market. This summer they have already brought in former City players Conor Coady, signed for £2m, and goalkeeper Danny Ward, who rejoined his boyhood club on a free transfer.
They will link up with Lewis Brunt, who swapped Leicester for Wrexham last summer, and experienced midfielder Matty James, who arrived on a free the year before. Doyle would become the fifth former Leicester player in the squad.
His signing would also lift Wrexham’s net spend to around £26m, currently the highest in the Championship.
Their summer business has already included notable arrivals, such as winger Nathan Broadhead from Ipswich in a record deal worth up to £10m, and Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest for around £3m.
After back-to-back promotions, Wrexham’s Championship return has started with narrow defeats to Southampton and West Brom, but their ambitious transfer activity shows clear intent.
