While Luca Williams-Barnett earned recognition as Tottenham’s standout performer at the Under-18 level this season, Thompson also made a big impression.
On 30 May, Tottenham confirmed that Thompson had signed his first professional contract with the club.
Lilywhite Rose celebrated the news on X, hailing Thompson as a “top prospect.” The young forward has impressed with his electric pace and ability to maintain control at speed, regularly leaving defenders behind.
According to John Wenham, owner of Lilywhite Rose, Thompson is ready to step up. Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham praised the teenager’s consistency and attacking prowess:
“Thompson is outstanding—a very good player. He’s a bit overshadowed by Williams-Barnett at times, but he’s a consistent eight or nine out of ten. He dominates the left wing with his pace, strength, and trickery, and he knows how to find the net.”
Wenham expects Thompson to feature regularly for Tottenham’s Under-21s next season, where he’ll look to impress and potentially secure a loan move in the following year.
Time to test Thompson at senior level?
There had been speculation that Postecoglou might promote Thompson to the senior squad after the March international break.
However, that opportunity never came, and Tottenham’s form declined further, with the team eventually dropping to 17th place.
Now that Postecoglou has departed, incoming Head Coach Thomas Frank may look to give Thompson a chance to shine.
With Son Heung-min struggling for consistency and the left wing in need of reinvigoration, Thompson could provide the injection of pace and creativity Spurs desperately need.
