“BOMBSHELL: De Zerbi DROPS 100% CONFIRMATION — Newcastle Are About to Steal the Most ELITE Signing of the Decade and Rivals Are PANICKING!”

Newcastle fans can be optimistic about Amar Dedic pursuit after Roberto De Zerbi’s previous praise for the defender.

Newcastle United have reportedly identified Benfica defender Amar Dedic as a potential target as manager Matthias Jaissle looks to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the new season.

The Magpies need reinforcements at right-back after Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth left the club this summer.

Tino Livramento’s recurring injury problems have also increased the need for additional competition and depth in the position.

Newcastle are yet to sign a defender during the current transfer window, but Jaissle has acknowledged that changes are expected before the window closes.

Dedic could be an attractive option because of his previous relationship with the German coach, having worked with Jaissle during their time at Red Bull Salzburg.

The 23-year-old Bosnia international joined Benfica last summer for around £10 million after developing into one of Salzburg’s standout players.

He helped the Austrian side win the Bundesliga in 2023 and was included in the league’s Team of the Season.

Dedic also spent time on loan at Marseille in 2025, where he made 10 Ligue 1 appearances and registered one assist.

During his spell in France, current Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi praised the defender’s pace, strength and ability to change direction, while highlighting his potential to become an important player after adapting to the league.

Former Barcelona and Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic also backed Dedic’s potential, describing him as a talented young player with the personality to succeed at the highest level.

With Newcastle prioritising defensive additions, Dedic’s versatility, athleticism and previous connection with Jaissle could make him a strong candidate for a move to St James’ Park.

Jaissle has confirmed that the club is assessing areas requiring improvement and hinted that further squad adjustments could be made before the transfer window closes.
