BOMBSHELL ALERT: 49ers’ HUGE Transfer Plans COMPLETELY DESTROYED After Leeds Star’s EPIC Elland Road RETURN! You won’t believe what just happened… This game-changing comeback could flip the entire script and send shockwaves through the whole transfer window!

Daniel Farke Could Hand Isaac Schmidt a Fresh Chance at Leeds

Isaac Schmidt Could Give Leeds a Ready-Made Defensive Option This Summer

Leeds United’s first-team squad will report back for pre-season on 13 July, and Isaac Schmidt is expected to be among the returning players at Thorp Arch following the end of his loan spell at Werder Bremen.

The Switzerland international spent last season in the Bundesliga after temporarily leaving Elland Road, but he is now set to rejoin Daniel Farke’s squad unless a permanent move materialises during the transfer window.

His return could provide Leeds with an internal solution at the back, reducing the need to invest heavily in defensive reinforcements.

Farke is already preparing for life without Sam Byram and Pascal Struijk, with the Dutch defender completing a permanent move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Although the Leeds boss would undoubtedly welcome additional defensive signings, the club’s financial position may require a more measured approach.

Schmidt was signed from St. Gallen in a deal worth around £4.6 million in 2024, but his first season at Leeds was disrupted by fitness problems, preventing him from making a significant impact.

As a result, he was sent out on loan to Werder Bremen in search of regular football and valuable experience.

However, his spell in Germany proved challenging. Schmidt struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, with Werder Bremen opting not to activate their option to sign him permanently.

Despite that, the 25-year-old remains an attractive option for clubs in his homeland, with FC Basel and BSC Young Boys both reportedly interested in securing his services this summer.

Leeds, though, may see greater value in retaining the versatile defender.

Chairman Paraag Marathe has already acknowledged the need for careful spending during this transfer window, and Schmidt could provide useful cover across the backline without requiring another transfer fee.

With James Justin and Gabriel Gudmundsson also capable of operating in left-sided defensive roles, Schmidt’s versatility could help Leeds cope with Struijk’s departure while allowing the club to prioritise strengthening other areas of the squad.

During his loan spell, Schmidt made 19 Bundesliga appearances, although only six came as a starter, with most of his minutes arriving at left-back.

According to Sofascore, he failed to register a big chance created or contribute to a clean sheet. On a more encouraging note, he won over half of his ground duels and an impressive 70 per cent of his aerial contests.

Pre-season now offers Schmidt a fresh opportunity to impress Farke and prove he can still play an important role at Elland Road next season.
