Frank delivers trophy message to critics of Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham

Brentford manager Thomas Frank is confident that Ange Postecoglou has the ability to guide Tottenham out of their current slump, ahead of their Premier League clash at Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday.

Spurs, struggling with injuries, are in 15th place in the league and are on a four-match losing streak heading into the West London trip.

Despite speculation regarding Postecoglou’s future at the club, Frank is optimistic about the Australian’s ability to turn things around.

“We were heavily impacted by injuries last year, so I can empathize with Ange’s situation at Tottenham,” Frank remarked on Friday.

“When results aren’t going your way, it’s challenging.

As managers, we all face such challenges, but I am sure that Ange is handling it well and will overcome this period.”

Frank emphasized that Postecoglou doesn’t need advice from others but should continue trusting his own methods and beliefs, something Frank believes the Tottenham boss is already doing.

“He just needs to trust his processes, and he’s doing that, which is the most important thing,” Frank added.

Tottenham also have a chance to end their long trophy drought, with a 1-0 lead over Liverpool heading into the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at Anfield in February.

Should they progress, they would be aiming for a spot in the final at Wembley.

Frank, a manager with great respect for Postecoglou, discussed the tough nature of being a coach during difficult times.

“It’s challenging, and it sometimes feels like everything rests on your shoulders,” Frank said.

“In the end, it’s always the manager who faces the pressure. That’s why I can relate to his position.”

Frank added that despite the tough moments, Postecoglou’s perseverance could lead to Tottenham clinching a trophy.

“Sometimes, even in the hardest seasons, a team can win a trophy, and that would be huge for Tottenham.

It could be one of those seasons where the suffering is intense, but they end up with silverware.”

In their earlier meeting this season, Tottenham triumphed 3-1 over Brentford despite the Bees taking the lead in the first minute through Bryan Mbeumo.

Brentford are coming off a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace and are looking to secure back-to-back victories for the first time this season.

“I thought Tottenham were flying when we faced them earlier this season,” Frank reflected. “When they’re at their best, they’re difficult to beat.

I expect an open game between two attacking teams, but we need to control the match in such situations, which will be a tough challenge.”
