In recent weeks, multiple sources have reported that Cristian Romero is considering a move to Atletico Madrid this summer, having held talks with Diego Simeone about the potential transfer.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson stated that if a substantial bid comes in, Tottenham should consider selling and reinvesting the money elsewhere in the squad.

He said: “If Tottenham don’t secure European football next season, they’ll likely bring in a new manager with fresh ideas.

Looking at the current squad, I’d see Romero and Van de Ven as a strong centre-back pairing.

But if a major offer arrives, it might make sense to accept it and use the funds to sign a promising young defender and strengthen other areas.”

Robinson added that Romero’s inconsistency this season could justify his sale. “If I’m a new manager and a big offer comes in for Romero, I’d seriously consider it.

His form hasn’t been great, and the money could help improve the squad as a whole. Honestly, I wouldn’t be too worried if a few players left this summer.”

As for Tottenham’s valuation of Romero, Spanish media reported that the club is seeking €80 million (£68.6 million) from Atletico Madrid.

However, the La Liga side is reportedly aiming to negotiate the fee down to between €40 million and €50 million (£34.3 million to £42.8 million).

Romero still has two years remaining on his current deal with Spurs, but with increasing speculation and interest from Simeone’s side, it’s uncertain whether he will push for a move.

Should Atletico make a concrete offer, Tottenham’s response—and Romero’s stance—will likely define how the situation unfolds in the coming months.
