Midfield Reinforcements Targeted After Bijol Deal
Having already secured the signing of centre-back Jaka Bijol from Udinese, Leeds show no signs of slowing down.
The next phase of their summer recruitment drive is firmly focused on midfield reinforcements. One major name linked with a move to Elland Road is Douglas Luiz.
The Juventus midfielder is expected to leave Turin in the coming weeks, and Leeds are reportedly eager to bring him back to the Premier League.
But Luiz is far from the only player on the club’s radar. Strasbourg captain Habib Diarra has also emerged as a key target. In fact, reports indicate that Leeds have already tabled an offer for the French midfielder.
The 20-year-old is seen as a potentially excellent fit alongside Ao Tanaka, who joined earlier this summer.
While Tanaka may have the edge in terms of technical metrics, Diarra offers a unique strength in his ability to carry the ball forward—something that could complement and cover for Tanaka’s rare limitations.
Even if Diarra signs, Leeds’ transfer activity may not be over. The club’s American owners, the 49ers Enterprises group, appear determined to build a team that can not only survive in the Premier League but compete in the upper half of the table in due course.
Timothy Weah Becomes Latest Ambitious Target
That ambition is reflected in their reported pursuit of U.S. international Timothy Weah. According to The Guardian’s Ed Aarons, Leeds have now entered the race to sign the Juventus winger after he rejected a move to Nottingham Forest.
Weah was left out of Juventus’ squad for their Club World Cup clash against Manchester City, along with Samuel Mbangula, after the club had agreed a deal with Forest.
However, the 24-year-old turned down the move—opening the door for Leeds, Everton, and Bournemouth to make their approach.
Described by Sky Sports’ Dougie Critchley as “one of the most versatile players in world football,” Weah featured in multiple roles for Juventus last season, including on both flanks and as a central forward.
His flexibility and top-level experience would be a major asset for Daniel Farke at Elland Road.
Landing Weah would not only bolster Leeds’ attacking options but also deliver a blow to a direct Premier League rival—sending a strong message about the club’s intent this season.
