Leicester City boss Marti Cifuentes has voiced his frustration after his team failed to make the most of three clear chances in their goalless draw with Coventry City.

Despite dominating large spells of the game and forcing Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth into several strong saves, Leicester could not find the breakthrough against their local rivals.

The best chance of the afternoon fell to Stephy Mavididi early in the second half.

Jordan Ayew set him up perfectly, but after letting the ball roll across his body, Mavididi’s right-footed effort was denied by Rushworth.

Earlier, Jordan James, making his first start for the club, almost found the net, while Julian Carranza went close with a back-post header.

Speaking after the match, Cifuentes admitted that his side needed to be more ruthless in front of goal.

“I’m never happy with a draw,” he said. “I really felt we could have taken all three points.

At the same time, we were up against a very good side. We started well after the break – the first 20 to 25 minutes were excellent.

Overall, we had three big chances – JJ, Julian and Stephy – and we should have converted at least one. Coventry also had one good opportunity when we lost the ball in our build-up.

“It was a tough game, and while I saw improvement in our play, it still feels like two points dropped. After a draw away, you’re always left thinking about the win that got away.”

When asked about the lack of composure in the final third, he acknowledged the issue but highlighted positives.

“Of course it’s frustrating, but I’d be more worried if we weren’t creating chances at all. That’s not the case.

The players are working hard and I can see their commitment every day in training. Today was a step forward in many areas.

“But football is not just about playing well or deserving to win. It’s about delivering when it matters.

Going forward, we need to make that difference by being clinical and taking the chances when they come.”
