Leicester City prospect Louis Page has been urged to “feel disappointed” after Marti Cifuentes’ decision to omit him from the squad for Saturday’s Championship clash against Coventry City.

Page was joined by Ben Nelson, Olabade Aluko, and Silko Thomas in missing out, despite being declared fit ahead of the game.

Meanwhile, Victor Kristiansen and Bobby De Cordova-Reid were named in the squad but left on the bench.

The 17-year-old playmaker had already sat out the 2-2 draw at Oxford United a week earlier due to a minor hamstring problem picked up on England Under-18 duty.

In his pre-match press conference before Coventry, however, Cifuentes confirmed Page was fully fit and available for selection.

When the team sheet was released at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, the biggest talking point was Page’s exclusion.

Instead, Cifuentes opted to start Jordan James and Harry Winks in midfield, alongside Boubakary Soumare.

Following the goalless M69 derby, the Leicester manager was asked about the youngster’s absence.

The Catalan coach reaffirmed his belief that Page will play a key role this season despite the setback.

Adding to the intrigue, Leicester announced on Monday that Page had signed his first professional contract.

The midfielder has attracted attention from some of England’s biggest clubs, but City have successfully tied him down to a long-term deal.

“He was fine and training well,” Cifuentes explained. “Last week at Oxford it was more a management issue—I didn’t want to risk him.

Today, it was just very tough to pick a squad. I’m a big believer in Louis. I know he’ll be important. I really believe in his quality.

“In my career, I’ve worked well with young players and hopefully I can help him become a major player for Leicester in the future.

But today, yes, he needs to feel disappointed with me. I’m sure he’ll respond in training this week and show why he’s a top talent.”
