Ex-Everton forward Neal Maupay is struggling to find his footing at Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille.
Since his departure from Everton in the summer of 2024, Neal Maupay has continued to antagonize Toffees supporters, even admitting that he feels pleased whenever the club suffers a defeat.
The French striker previously predicted that Everton would be relegated last season, a claim that turned out to be woefully inaccurate as David Moyes’ men comfortably avoided the drop, finishing 23 points clear of danger.

The 29-year-old has endured a miserable spell in France and has now been frozen out of the first-team setup by manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Marseille are expected to encourage him to leave in the January transfer window, though they will likely attempt to recover most of the £6 million they paid for his services.
Interestingly, Everton managed to profit financially from Maupay’s departure despite his disappointing stint at Goodison Park.
Football finance expert Adam Williams revealed to Everton News that due to amortization, the club recorded a small gain from his sale.
“Although Maupay was signed for around £10 million, rising to £15 million with add-ons, his book value had decreased significantly by the time he left.
With a £6 million sale potentially rising to £10 million, Everton earned an estimated £3.5–£7.5 million profit under PSR, along with notable wage savings,” Williams explained.
While Maupay’s Everton spell remains one of the club’s more forgettable transfers, the financial outcome at least softened the blow.
With the forward now struggling in France, Everton fans will hope the saga finally ends—without any further jibes from the striker.
