Leicester City’s promising forward Jake Evans is firmly “in our plans for the future,” according to manager Marti Cifuentes, who has tempered expectations of an imminent first-team promotion for the teenager despite his scintillating form.

Evans, 17, recently signed his first professional contract with the Foxes after an impressive run of six goals in his last seven appearances for the Under-21 side.

His prolific streak has sparked excitement among fans, many of whom are eager to see him handed an opportunity in the senior setup amid the club’s attacking struggles.

So far this season, Leicester’s three senior strikers — Jordan Ayew, Patson Daka, and Julian Carranza — have managed just one goal collectively in their opening 12 Championship fixtures.

This lack of firepower has intensified calls for Cifuentes to look toward the youth ranks for a solution.

However, the manager appears more focused on Evans’s long-term development than rushing him into first-team contention.

Earlier this month, Cifuentes urged patience, explaining that the young forward still needed to “show the things we want him to show in the Under-21s” before earning a senior opportunity.

When asked more recently if Evans’s scoring spree had changed that stance, the Spaniard expressed delight with the youngster’s progress but maintained his cautious approach.

“First of all, I’m very happy that he’s signed his contract,” said Cifuentes. “We have a lot of faith in him, and he’s definitely in our plans for the future. I’m happy for him, for his family, and for the club.

He’s been performing well, scoring goals, and improving in other areas. That’s what matters most right now.”

Cifuentes went on to clarify that his evaluation of strikers goes beyond their goal tally. “When I talk about strikers, I don’t just mean goals. Of course, what Jake is doing is excellent, but I’m just as pleased with how he’s developing overall. I’m sure he’ll be an important player for us in the future.”

Evans has risen through Leicester’s academy ranks alongside Jeremy Monga and Louis Page.

While Monga has become a regular feature this term and Page has made several first-team appearances, Evans is yet to make his senior debut.

Addressing whether young strikers face particular challenges in stepping up from academy football, Cifuentes offered a measured view.

“Not necessarily,” he said. “Historically, it’s never easy for a young striker to establish themselves in a top side.

The step up is always difficult, especially in England given how the Under-21 league is structured.

“But for me, the position doesn’t really matter. I look at what each player shows in training and what they can contribute to the team.

I don’t consider age as a factor — it’s purely about quality, attitude, and what they can bring to the group.”
