Tottenham Hotspur defender Ryan Sessegnon is reportedly drawing interest from newly promoted Ipswich Town, according to club insider Paul O’Keefe.
The 24-year-old’s contract with Spurs is set to expire next month, and he is expected to leave the club this summer.
Once regarded as a promising talent, Sessegnon’s career at Tottenham has been marred by injuries.
In the past 11 months, the defender has struggled with fitness, spending significant time on the sidelines since February of last year.
His most recent setback occurred after a brief return to action for Tottenham’s U21 side, where he suffered another hamstring injury requiring surgery, ruling him out for an additional three months.
With Sessegnon’s contract nearing its end, Tottenham has the option to extend his deal by another year.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously reported that the club is unlikely to exercise this option, setting the stage for Sessegnon’s departure on a free transfer next month.
Despite interest from various European clubs, Sessegnon prefers to remain in the Premier League.
Ipswich Town, recently promoted to the Premier League, is reportedly keen on acquiring Sessegnon’s services.
Paul O’Keefe, a well-known club insider, indicated that Ipswich sees Sessegnon as a viable option for a permanent move.
If Sessegnon leaves, Tottenham will need to sign another left-back to back up Destiny Udogie.
