Leicester City Winger Eyes Move and Discusses Future Plans Following Enzo Maresca’s Decision
Leicester City winger Wanya Marcal is keen to secure a loan move this summer to further his development and enhance his prospects at the King Power Stadium in the long term.
Despite being on the fringes of the senior squad last season, Marcal earned a new contract extending until 2026, indicating the club’s faith in his potential. However, he is now seeking regular game-time elsewhere to progress his skills, especially with Leicester now competing in the Premier League and bolstering their squad with new signings like Abdul Fatawu, Stephy Mavididi, and Kasey McAteer. Additionally, manager Steve Cooper has strengthened the wide positions further with the addition of Bobby De Cordova-Reid.
“Ideally, I’ll try to secure a loan and gain exposure in men’s football,” Marcal shared on the Ballers Mindset podcast. “At 21, it’s crucial for me to develop and play as much as possible to establish myself. My goal is to return to Leicester and cement a place in the starting lineup in the upcoming seasons.”
Last season, Marcal made eight appearances across various competitions, including a notable performance where he scored in a 2-1 win against Cardiff City in his first home league start. However, he found opportunities sporadic afterward, with his exclusion from the squad for a subsequent match against Rotherham proving a humbling experience.
Reflecting on this setback, Marcal commented, “It was a reality check for me. I didn’t fully grasp the situation at the time. Coach Enzo Maresca emphasized the need for young players to consistently earn their place through hard work and dedication in training. It was a valuable lesson, and I accepted it with determination to keep pushing forward.”
Marcal remains optimistic about his future at Leicester but acknowledges the importance of gaining valuable experience elsewhere through a loan spell.
