The Blues announced on May 22 that they had mutually agreed to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino after their end-of-season review. This news surprised some, as the Argentine head coach had successfully navigated a challenging start at Chelsea, winning seven of the last ten Premier League matches of the season and finishing sixth.
Manchester United’s FA Cup final victory ultimately denied Chelsea a place in Europe, but a top-six finish was seen as an achievement given the team’s struggles earlier in the season. The search for a new manager has been rapid as owner Todd Boehly aimed to find Pochettino’s successor quickly.
For the past week, it has become evident that Leicester City’s Championship title-winning manager Maresca would be the next head coach at Stamford Bridge, though his announcement has yet to be made. This delay has caused concerns that the deal might not be finalized.
However, the delays appear to be minor administrative issues. Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday that two final steps remain before the official unveiling. Firstly, Maresca has yet to sign his new contract, possibly due to being on holiday, and secondly, a compensation package with Leicester City is still being finalized.
It is understood that Chelsea will pay a fee exceeding £8.5 million to secure Maresca from his current club. Despite these crucial hurdles, they are expected to be resolved soon, making the announcement imminent.
