Everton Set to Acquire Jake O’Brien from Lyon for €20 Million

L’Equipe has reported that Lyon’s central defender Jake O’Brien, aged 23, is set to join Everton following an agreement between the two clubs worth €20 million.

This move marks a significant return on investment for Lyon, who acquired O’Brien just last summer from Crystal Palace for €1 million.

The Irish international exceeded all expectations during his time with Lyon, becoming a crucial member of the team. His impressive performance led to his recognition as the Signing of the Season by Get French Football News.

Everton managed to outmaneuver other interested Premier League clubs, including Wolverhampton and Brentford, to secure O’Brien’s services.

Although Nottingham Forest offered a higher bid, O’Brien opted to reject their approach in favor of joining Everton.

The official announcement of the transfer is expected from Everton in the coming days. Notably, if Everton decides to sell O’Brien in the future, Lyon will be entitled to receive 10% of the transfer fee.

This deal highlights the significant impact O’Brien had at Lyon and the high regard in which he is held in the football community.
