Report: “Sensational” Celtic Star Eager to Exit Alongside O’Riley, Leicester Interested
Leicester City are eyeing Celtic’s Reo Hatate as a potential signing to bolster their midfield, with the player reportedly interested in the move, according to Chris Wheatley.
Earlier this summer, Leicester faced setbacks with the departure of manager Enzo Maresca and star midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea.
Despite these challenges, Steve Cooper guided the team to a 1-1 draw against Tottenham in their season opener.
To reinforce their midfield, Leicester has already signed Oliver Skipp from Tottenham and brought in Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton.
Additionally, Boubakary Soumare has returned from a loan spell.
However, with ten days remaining in the transfer window, Leicester is keen to make further additions, and Reo Hatate has emerged as a prime target.
The 26-year-old was instrumental in Brendan Rodgers’ squad that secured the Scottish Premiership title last season and was praised as “sensational” by pundit James McFadden for his performances.
Journalist Chris Wheatley reports that the Japanese international is eager to move to the Premier League this summer, although he has also attracted interest from clubs in Spain and Italy.
Despite this, Celtic is determined to retain their squad as they aim to secure another title, edging out Rangers.
Steve Cooper has also strengthened the squad by signing Isshaku Fatawu and Bobby DeCordova-Reid to enhance their attacking options, while Caleb Okoli has solidified the center-back position.
Following their promotion to the Premier League, Leicester has seen the departures of Kelechi Iheanacho, Harry Souttar, Dennis Praet, and Marc Albrighton.
However, the club is expected to be active in the transfer market as they aim to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
Celtic has already turned down an offer from Zenit St Petersburg for Hatate this summer but remains aware of the interest in the midfielder as the transfer deadline approaches.
