“Absolutely”: Harry Souttar Weighs In on Potential Permanent Move to Sheffield United

Harry Souttar Reflects on His Future Amid Successful Loan at Sheffield United

During the summer transfer window, Leicester City manager Steve Cooper opted to send Harry Souttar out on loan from the King Power Stadium.

Under Cooper, Wout Faes and Caleb Okoli have established themselves as the preferred central defensive pairing, leaving Australian centre-back Souttar sidelined at the start of the season.

This prompted Souttar’s temporary move to Sheffield United, where he has thrived.

The Blades’ supporters are already calling for the loan to be converted into a permanent deal.

Souttar has reflected on his situation and future with Leicester, expressing gratitude for the opportunity at Sheffield United.

Speaking to The Star, he shared, “Absolutely,” when asked about his future in Yorkshire.

“I’m here until the summer, that’s a guarantee.

Whatever happens beyond that is out of my hands, but this club has given me a lot, and the gaffer’s shown great faith in me. I want to repay that trust.”

He added, “My focus has been solely on Sheffield United.

SHREWSBURY, ENGLAND – JULY 23: Harry Souttar of Leicester City looks on during the Pre-Season Friendly between Shrewsbury Town and Leicester City at Croud Meadow on July 23, 2024 in Shrewsbury, England.

Although I’m a loan player and Leicester is my parent club, all my energy and communication have been centered here, both on and off the pitch.”

Souttar’s move to Leicester from Stoke City in January 2023 has not gone as planned.

The 26-year-old has struggled for opportunities, making just four appearances during Leicester’s time in the Championship under Enzo Maresca.

With Cooper also unconvinced, Souttar’s departure on loan was inevitable.

A permanent move to Bramall Lane could be a logical next step for the Australian international.

Sheffield United is currently in the automatic promotion places in the Championship, raising the prospect of a return to the Premier League next season.

For Souttar, the transition to Sheffield has been a positive change, allowing him to play regularly and prove his abilities.

A long-term move might benefit both the player and the club as they aim for success in the league.
